Laredo, TX (Webb County) – Sheriff Martin Cuellar on Monday announced the promotion of Captain Ponce Coy Treviño to Webb County Jail Commander.

Treviño is no stranger to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, having started with the agency in 2005.  He served as Captain for the past 6 ½ years and, most recently, obtained his Helicopter Private Certification in April 2014.

“I’m extremely grateful to Sheriff Martin Cuellar for the opportunity he has given me to serve as the Jail Commander of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division,” said Treviño. “I look forward to these new responsibilities.”

Trevino’s new duties include ensuring the day-to-day operations of the Webb County Jail run smoothly and maintaining compliance in accordance with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. He will remain as the pilot for the Sheriff’s Office Observation Helicopter (OH-6).

Treviño is replacing recently-elected Judge Jose “Pepe” Salinas, who served the Webb County Sheriff’s Office for 30 years.

“I know I have big shoes to fill that were left behind by our previous Commander Salinas, but I’m confident that with the knowledge he passed on to me and with the support of my colleagues, I will do everything in my reach to ensure the day-to-day operations of the jail are met timely and efficiently,” Treviño said.

Sheriff Martin Cuellar, while describing Treviño, noted he is a respectable and responsible Captain whose dedication to the agency is one that should be emulated.

“Commander Trevino has proven to be an excellent and dedicated employee who has been a great asset to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Cuellar added. “I know he will continue to work hard and move our jail in the right direction.”

Treviño is also a proud U.S. Army Veteran, who served our country from 1990-1995.
