LEMURS SIGN JIMMY MOJICA FOR INTERNATIONAL GAMES

Mojica Will Retire in Lemurs Jersey

Courtesy Victoria Cardenas,

lemursLaredo, TX – The Laredo Lemurs have resigned Shortstop Jimmy Mojica for the International Sister Cities Classic this Thursday and Friday.  Mojica was first signed by Manager Pete Incaviglia for the expansion-team Laredo Lemurs in 2011 and quickly tapped Mojica to become the team’s franchise player.  Mojica delivered, hitting .339 with 9 home runs and 61 RBI’s in 2012 and hit .312 with 10 home runs and 61 RBI’s in 2013.

After the 2013 season, Mojica then retired and the Lemurs gave Mojica his unconditional release.  In June, 2014 Mojica came out of retirement and signed with division-rival Grand Prairie AirHogs.  “I think we were all a little stunned when hearing that he came out of retirement”, said Mark Schuster, Lemurs CEO.  “At a very minimum I thought we would have received a courtesy call about his intentions.  I think the fans took it personally since they felt they had invested in Jimmy”, Schuster added.  What followed was a wave of boos and jeers when Jimmy suited up against his former teammates when the AirHogs came to play the Lemurs at Uni-Trade Stadium.

“Jimmy came into my office last week and apologized for the way he handled the whole situation”, Schuster stated.  “I shook his hand and asked if he wanted to retire again as a Lemur.”

“I really like this community and feel that this is my home now, so being able to go out the right way is incredibly important to me”, Mojica stated.  Mojica is slated to start shortstop Thursday night when the Lemurs take on the Nuevo Laredo Tecolotes in the Sister Cities Classic.   Gates open up at 6:30pm and first pitch is slated for 7:30pm.

Tickets are still available for the Thursday night.

Lemurs season tickets for the 2015 season are on sale now by calling (956) 7LEMURS or emailing at tickets@laredolemurs.com.
