Mexican Pianist Nevárez Featured Performer at TAMIU Guest Artist Recital Tonight

(Laredo, Tx)-Pianist Eliud Nevárez will be the featured performer at Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Guest Artist Recital Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Recital Hall.

            The recital is free and open to the public.

A native of México, Nevárez has maintained a constant musical presence in México and the United States for more than 20 years. At the recital, he will interpret works by Scarlatti, Beethoven and Chopin.

  Currently a music professor and concert pianist for the University of Coahuila, Nevárez has received several awards including the Inez Meachum Powell and Pi Mu Alpha Prizes from Sam Houston State University. In 1995, his music project was awarded a prize from the State Endowment for the Arts of Coahuila, which allowed him to perform throughout the State of Coahuila.

 In 2012, the Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila awarded him the “Miguel Ramos Arizpe” medal for his academic achievements. In 2008, he made a recording interpreting works by Mexican composers José Rolón, Domingo Lobato and Hermilio Hernández.

In México, Nevárez studied at the University of Guadalajara School of Music. He earned his bachelor of music and his master of music from Sam Houston State University. From 1990 to 1995, he studied at the University of Texas at Austin School of Music.

His past performances include those at the Calderón Theater in Zacatecas; the City Theater of La Paz, Baja California Sur; the Ex-Convento del Carmen in Guadalajara; the Isauro Martínez Theater in Torreón, and the Guest Artist Series of the Sam Houston State University School of Music.

Most recently, he has performed at TAMIU, the University of Guadalajara, Carlos Chávez Hall of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and at the Universidad Juárez of the State of Durango.
