Laredo, TexasU.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Laredo Port of Entry this weekend noticed some bottles of fruit drinks carried by a bus passenger contained a highly addictive, crystalline ingredient, and seized nearly $800,000 in liquid methamphetamine.

“Our officers exercised their training, experience and zeroed-in on a significant amount of methamphetamine hidden in plain sight in liquid form,” said Joseph Misenhelter, CBP Port Director, Laredo. “This combined with several hard narcotics seizures from the previous week underscores the seriousness of the drug threat we are facing.”

The seizure occurred on Friday, Sept. 19 at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge. CBP officers referred an 18-year-old male U.S. citizen bus passenger from Pasadena, California for a secondary examination. Upon completion of their examination, CBP officers discovered 10 bottles of fruit juice belonging to the passenger that contained a total of nearly 25 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine. The narcotics carry an estimated street value of $796,000.

CBP officers arrested the bus passenger and turned him over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.

CBP Field Operations at Laredo Port of Entry is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
