Defendant pleads guilty to online solicitation of a minor

 (Laredo, Tx)-The Office of the District Attorney secured a guilty plea in its case against Steven Villarreal for online solicitation of a minor. 

  On September 10, 2012, Steven Villarreal, 44, initiated a chatting conversation with an undercover investigator posing as “Mari,” a 14-year-old female for an operation that locates subjects who commit the offense of online solicitation of a minor.  During the conversation, Villarreal spoke in a sexual manner and sent an explicit picture of his private area.

 Villarreal was arrested that same day at his residence and charged with online solicitation of a minor sexual conduct. He was subsequently indicted by a Webb County Grand Jury for one count of online solicitation of a minor involving “luring” as outlined by the Texas Penal Code Section 33.021(c), a second degree felony.  

  Villarreal was sentenced before the 49th District Court Judge Joe Lopez to five years to serve probated for a period of five years. Villarreal will register as a sex offender for ten years after completing the five year probationary period.

  Assistant District Attorney Adam Muffett represented the State of Texas.
