Webb County Sheriff’s Narcotics Investigators Seize 472 Pounds of Dope

Laredo, Texas – On Wednesday, July 29, 2009, The Webb County Sheriff’s Office received a Crime Stoppers tip stating that several suspicious male subjects were unloading large black bags into a residence at the 3000 block of Santa Maria.
Narcotics investigators responded to the call followed by a 2 ½ hour investigation. A subject, identified as Juan Francisco Fuentes from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, was observed entering and exiting the residence. As investigators approached the residence, they sensed an overwhelming odor of marijuana emitting from an air conditioner window unit presumed to be used to ventilate the residence. Soon after, investigators discovered 472 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $239,000 and along with it 1.5 grams of cocaine at an estimated street value of $100. Fuentes admitted to investigators that he was paid to store and reroute the marijuana at that residence, he also stated to the deputies that he was in the country illegally.
Fuentes also had in his possession several forms of identification including social security cards and Texas Identification cards. Juan Francisco Fuentes was remanded to the Webb County Jail facing charges of possession of marijuana, Felony 2 and possession of a controlled substance, Felony 3.
