Trial continues for man accused of intoxication manslaughter

  (Laredo, Tx)-The trial of a 40-year-old Pearsall man accused of intoxication manslaughter relating to a three-vehicle collision that took the life of a 30-year-old man continued today before presiding judge Elma T. Salinas Ender in the 49th District Court. 

  Rodolfo Martinez-Salinas is accused of driving intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.15 causing the death of Leonardo Camarillo on the morning of September 8, 2007. Martinez-Salinas was driving a Volvo truck tractor on Interstate Highway 35 near Carriers Drive at the 13-mile marker on east frontage road. He lost control of his vehicle and rear-ended a Honda accord, which subsequently collided with a tractor trailer. One of the passengers in the Honda was Camarillo who died at the scene as a result of the impact. The female driver and her two baby girls who were also in the car sustained injuries from the accident.  They were rushed to a local hospital and later airlifted to San Antonio, Texas.

  Martinez-Salinas was arrested on January 8, 2008 and charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and three counts of intoxicated assault, a second degree and third degree felonies in the State of Texas, respectively.

  One more Laredo Police officer testified today before the State rested. 

 Trial will resume tomorrow with closing arguments at 9 a.m. 

 Assistant District Attorney’s Juan R. Flores, Elizabeth Oehl and Joaquin Rodriguez are prosecuting the case for the state.
