Laredo, TX – A man sits behind bars for breaking into a home in the 500 block of Welhausen Road in Oilton, Texas.
The homeowner told authorities he was woken up to the would-be thief around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. That’s when the owner said he grabbed his gun to protect himself and his family, ordering Joel Omar Ruiz, 18, to get out of his home. The resident then went back inside to call 911 and found the suspect once again on his front porch. Ruiz then took off running towards a brushy area. A detailed description of the suspect helped deputies from the Sheriff’s Office and Constable Pct 3 track down the individual in the 100 block of Molina on an empty lot.
When authorities handcuffed Ruiz and escorted him to the patrol car, he resisted arrest. The suspect remains behind bars with no bond and is facing charges for burglary of habitation, criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.
