Laredo, TX (Webb County) – Three new deputies joined the ranks of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office, being fully certified to pull double duty both as correctional officers and peace officers.
Family, friends and superiors gathered on Monday morning for the deputizing of Victor Salinas, Roberto Ramirez and Christian Gregory. For five months, the deputies went through intense training at the academy. To ensure they were fit for the job they had to pass two rounds of physical training, both within the Sheriff’s office and at the academy.
The graduates learned a number of different tactics from the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedures, Health and Safety Code (narcotics) and self defense to name a few. The deputies will now have the opportunity to utilize their training both at the Webb County jail and on the field in different operations, such as Homeland Security Efforts, should the need arise. “I’m very proud of them, said Sheriff Martin Cuellar. “We welcome the officers in their new positions as peace officers, because we can sure use more boots on the ground whether it’s working in the courts, patrolling or in the warrants division,” he added.
