Defendant Pleads Guilty to Murder

(Laredo, Tx)-The District Attorney’s Office secured a guilty plea in its case against Luis Jimenez. On May 6, 2014, Luis Jimenez, 33, plead guilty to murder, a first degree felony in the state of Texas before the 341st District Court Judge Rebecca “Beckie” Palomo.

On February 9, 2012, Laredo Police Department officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Cuatro Vientos in South Laredo. At the scene, officers found Roberto Carlos Benavidez unresponsive on his bed. Benavidez had multiple stab wounds to the left side of his neck, head and shoulder.

Jimenez was arrested on February 29, 2012 in San Diego, California. Texas Governor Rick Perry signed the governor’s warrant on May 16, 2012 to transport Jimenez to Webb County.

Jimenez will serve 30 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2014 at 8:00 am.

Assistant District Attorney’s Aaron Bundoc and Cristina Alva were the prosecutors for the State.
