(Laredo, Tx)-United ISD continues to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all students and staff. To ensure that is so, we welcome Aron, an explosive detection K-9 who joined United ISD’s Police K-9 Unit on April 1st. He is a male German short hair pointer, who will be working along side Officer Ben Bondoc. He was donated by TSA (Transportation Security Administration), saving our UISD Police Department a total of $10, 000.00.
Retiring from the Department’s K-9 Unit is Kelly, a Belgian Malinois, after serving four years. Kelly was assigned to Officer Bondoc in April of 2010. She was donated from Lackland Airforce Base after serving a tour of duty in Afganistan. She will be missed but will be enjoying her retirement.
The UISD Police K-9 Handlers Program was introduced in October of 2003, and currently has three certified handlers. The objective of the K-9 unit is to deter students, staff and visitors from bringing contraband onto any United ISD property. Our K-9 Unit makes random, unscheduled and sometimes unannounced visits to all United ISD campuses/ Step Academy (Alternative School) and buildings. Inspections include: schools, parking lots, cars,
