BRONCOS RALLY LATE FOR VICTORY OVER WHITEWINGS

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth, to beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by a score of 8-3 at Veterans Field, on Tuesday.

The WhiteWings jumped out to the lead in the first.  Brian Nichols reached on a fielder’s choice, with Joaquin Rodriguez scoring on the play.  That made the score 1-0 in favor of Rio Grande Valley.

The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the third inning.  OJ Garza and Jaime Morales hit back to back singles to start the inning.  After a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, a passed ball was charged to catcher Sandy De Leon which allowed Garza to score.  The game was tied at 1.

The game remained tied all the way till the top of the sixth.  The WhiteWings had Rico Santana on third base, while Welinson Baez was at first.  Baez started to steal and got caught in a rundown.  Santana took off for home and beat the throw by starting pitcher Jeff Jamnik.  That gave the WhiteWings a 2-1 lead.

Rio Grande Valley extended their lead in the seventh on a rbi double by Joaquin Rodriguez.  The WhiteWings now led 3-1.

The Broncos got closer in the seventh.  Mario Mendez led off with a single and then stole second base.  After a wild pitch moved him to third, Mendez scored on a groundout by Luany Sanchez.  That made the score 3-2.

Broncos’ starter Jeff Jamnik left the game after seven solid innings.  He gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on nine hits.  He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.  Julio Pinto came into the game in the eighth.

Laredo took the lead for the first time in the game in the eighth inning.  Jaime Morales singled to start the inning.  With one out, Luis Ugueto doubled moving Morales to third.  David Cardona then was then intentionally walked to load the bases.  Mario Mendez came up and delivered a two run double scoring both Morales and Ugueto.  Argelis Nunez was then intentionally walked to re load the bases again.  Then with two outs, Andres Santos hit a bases clearing double and went to third on an error by the catcher.  OJ Garza then reached on a error by first baseman Brian Nichols allowing Santos to score, as the Broncos now led by a score of 8-3.

Franklyn Gracesqui pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, as the Broncos snapped the three game losing streak by a score of 8-3.

The Broncos scored 8 runs on 9 hits and had 2 errors while the WhiteWings scored 3 runs on 10 hits and had 2 errors.

The Broncos are now 16-30 on the season while the WhiteWings are 22-24.  The Broncos will next be in action Wednesday July 29th, as they play game three of a four game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at 7:30.  You can listen to that game and all 80 Broncos games this year on our website www.laredobroncos.com through our partners at www.sportsujuice.com.
