Sing along and help ring in the holidays with the Laredo Phil at the upcoming concert, “Messiah: A Sacred Oratorio,” Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.
General admission is $20, $15 for seniors and free for students with a valid ID.
“To many, the holidays are not the holidays until the ‘Hallelujah’ chorus sounds. So we are helping to ring in the holiday season with a full-scale performance and Handel’s great, crowning achievement, ‘Messiah: A Sacred Oratorio’!” said Brendan Townsend, music director, Laredo Phil.
Members of the newly formed Scolla Cantorum – a body of professional singers from Austin – will join the Laredo Phil and also sing the various, much-loved arias.
“As it is popular in many parts of the world, people have sung Messiah for years and years, and basically know the work inside and out. We invite the public to join in on some of the more popular choral numbers, such as ‘And the Glory,’ ‘For Unto Us a Child is Born,’ ‘Glory to God,’ and of course – the famous ‘Hallelujah Chorus,’ ” said Townsend.
Copies of the music will be available at the door and the words for chorus will also be displayed on screens.
“This is one way to enrich the community—bringing music lovers together to share in an experience of singing one of the greatest works of all time, without having to sacrifice hours to rehearsals! Come and be a part of this wonderful engaging performance,” encouraged Townsend. Tickets are available online at http://laredophil.instantencore.com/web/home.aspx or at the TAMIU Bookstore, Cantú Interiors, from LP members or at the concert itself.
