BRONCOS’ BATS GO SILENT IN LOSS TO ROADRUNNERS

Laredo, TX-the Laredo Broncos only had three hits on the night, as they lost to the Edinburg Roadrunners by a score of 3-0 at Veterans Field, on Sunday.

The Roadrunners struck first in the first inning.  Robert Matlock led off with a single.  Then with one out, Vincent Blue drew a walk.  Bryon Smith followed with a rbi double scoring Matlock and moving Blue to third.  Carlos Hereaud then hit a rbi groundout, scoring Blue and advancing Smith to third base.  Smith then scored on a single by Osiel Flores, as that made the score 3-0 in favor of Edinburg.

The Roadrunners’ starting pitcher Tim Haines had a perfect game going after three innings of work.  However, that ended when David Cardona led off the fourth with a double.  Laredo still did no damage as the game remained 3-0.

Edinburg had a chance to blow the game wide open in the top of the seventh.  They loaded the bases with no out, when the Broncos took out starter Luis Arroyo.  Jason Herman came into the game and got Eric Gonzalez to hit into a 3-2-4 double play.  After a walk reloaded the bases, Herman struck out Bryon Smith to end the threat and keep the score 3-0.

Luis Arroyo pitched six innings in his outing.  He gave up all three runs on seven hits.  He walked and struck out three batters.

Edgar Soto came into the game in the eighth and shut down the Roadrunners for the next two innings, as the game headed to the bottom of the ninth with Edinburg still leading by 3.  Roadrunners starter Tim Haines came out to try to pitch the complete game shut out.  He stuck out the side in the ninth inning, as the Broncos fell by a score of 3-0.

Tim Haines picked up his first complete game shutout of the season.  He went all nine innings giving up no runs on three hits.  He walked only one batter and struck out 16.

The Broncos scored 0 runs on 3 hits and had 1 error while the Roadrunners scored 3 runs on 7 hits and had 2 errors.

The Broncos are now 13-25 on the season while the Roadrunners are 18-20.  The Broncos will next be in action Monday July 20th, as they play game three of a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners in Laredo at 7:30.  You can listen to that game and all 80 Broncos games this year on our website www.laredobroncos.com through our partners at www.sportsujuice.com.
