On Thursday, July 09, 2009, at approximately 11:37 a.m. Ramiro Campos, 28 yrs. old, and Arnulfo Garza, 32 yrs. old, were placed under arrest for Burglary of Habitation F/2 and Theft C/B. Both individuals are believed to be part of a rash of burglaries for the past several months. The crime duo’s mode of operation was to gain access through unlocked garage doors and then take items from within the residences.
On June, 29, 2009, at approximately 6:58 p.m. a burglary was committed by the 8800 block of Liberty Loop. A next door neighbor of a burglarized home, equipped with surveillance cameras, captured two suspects in the act of committing a burglary. The neighbor was monitoring the crime in progress and made contact with the homeowner of the ongoing crime. The homeowner was inside his house and came out to investigate. He noticed a vehicle speeding away and in turn filed a police report.
Video footage of the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene was investigated and eventually led police investigators to the registered owner of the suspect car captured on the surveillance tape. The registered owner, a woman, stated to investigators that her husband was the one using her vehicle to commit the burglaries. While investigators were interviewing the woman in the home her husband, Ramiro Campos, was hiding inside the home’s bathroom. The woman gave the investigators consent to search the home and Campos was located and detained. Campos voluntarily confessed to committing several burglaries in the north side of town and said he was taking the items to be pawned off at different pawn shops throughout the city and also sold several of the stolen items to an unsuspecting elderly couple. Campos further stated that he and an accomplice, identified as Arnulfo Garza. Campos was found to be wanted on a pending Violation of Probation warrant. He was served and taken to jail on that outstanding warrant. Several of the stolen items were recovered from the elderly couple’s home on the 2600 block of Napoleon, including; a welding machine, a vacuum cleaner, a tool box with tools, and an Xbox video game system. The elderly couple stated that they did not know the items were stolen and returned the items to Police.
There are several ongoing burglary cases that may be connected to the burglary duo and more charges may be imminent.
Both suspects were charged and placed in Webb County Jail in lieu of $53,000.00 bond set by J.P. Ramiro Veliz.
The Laredo Police remind the public to secure their homes by closing and locking all entrances including garage doors.
