Lemurs Rally to Beat Sox

Courtesy Bill Harrington,

lemurs Laredo, TX – The Lemurs used a two-out rally in the eighth inning to pull out a 4-3 win over the Amarillo Sox Saturday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Amarillo (35-29) opened the scoring in the second with a two-out single by Jason Martin that plated Joe Weik.  Weik had doubled to lead off the inning.  The Sox added another tally in the top of the fifth with three straight singles.  With one out, Jorge Delgado drove in Chris Valencia for a 2-0 lead.  The Lemurs (37-30) broke through to tie it in the bottom of the fifth.  Danny Poma singled and stole second.  A walk to Garrett Rau put runners at first and second with one out.  Harrison Kain then hit a grounder to short that resulted in a throwing error at second base, allowing Poma to score the first Lemurs run.  Rau scored the tying run on a fielder’s choice by Mike Provencher.

With the game tied in the eighth, Laredo started a two-out rally on an infield single from Brian Peterson.  Mike Sheridan followed that with a single to right.  Danny Poma then reached on catcher’s interference to load the bases.  Garrett Rau gave the Lemurs the lead on an infield single of his own that scored Peterson.  Sheridan also ran home on the play to make it 4-2 as an argument at first ensued.  Amarillo would threaten in the ninth but managed to score just once for the game’s final margin.

Laredo reliever Jameson Maj posted the win.  Maj (1-1) worked one inning and gave up one hit with two strikeouts.  Amarillo reliever Jeff Lyman suffered the loss.  Lyman (0-1) pitched two-thirds of an inning, and allowed two runs on three base hits.  Mark Haynes pitched the ninth for his sixth save of the season.  Haynes gave up a run on one hit with a strikeout.  The two teams combined for five errors in the contest as the Lemurs salvaged the finale of a three-game set with the Sox.

First-place Laredo finished the six-game home stand with a 3-3 record.  The Lemurs head out on the road for four games at Kansas City and three at Amarillo.  The series against the T-Bones starts Monday night at 7:05.  Laredo returns home August 5th to face El Paso.  For ticket information, visit www.laredolemurs.com.
