Diablos Pitching Trumps Lemurs

Laredo, TX – The El Paso Diablos (16-40) shutout the Laredo Lemurs (31-23) 3-0 Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Diablos starting pitcher Austin Carden (2-0) was impressive in his second start and third appearance of the season. He held the Lemurs to five hits, over seven innings, while posting five strikeouts picking up his second win.
The Diablos relief core also pitched in to help conserve the shutout. Carlos Monasterios pitched the eighth giving up one hit, while facing four Lemurs hitters. Marshall Schuler picked up his fourth save of the year as he turned in a perfect ninth striking out two.
The Lemurs picked up six hits on the night while striking out seven times. They were retired in order four times.
Bradley Blanks (5-1) took his first loss of the season as he came in to start the seventh, giving up two runs, on three hits, with a walk mixed in.
With two runners on for the Diablos in the seventh Moises Montero doubled down the left field line to give the Diablos a 2-0 lead. They would put up another run in the ninth to make it 3-0.
Lemurs’ starter Greg Wilborn was impressive, throwing six, giving up three hits, with two walks, while striking out four. Wilborn has now started seven games for the Lemurs this year. In five of those outings he has not allowed a run.
The Lemurs are on their longest home stand of the season with the St. Paul Saints coming to town through July 17th.
