BRONCOS’ 3 GAME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED

July 3, 2009-Laredo, TX-the Laredo Broncos gave up 3 long balls as they lost
to the San Angelo Colts by a score of 8-3 at Veterans Field, on Friday.

The Colts jumped out to the early lead in the 1st inning.  With 1 out Jason
Diaz walked and then stole 2nd base.  Ronnie Gaines followed with a walk
putting runners on 1st and 2nd.  Bryan Frichter then singled into left field
scoring Diaz and moving Gaines to 2nd.  Jason Landreth emptied the bases
with a 3 run home run, his 6th of the season.  That gave San Angelo the 4-0
lead.

The Colts added to their lead in the 3rd.  With 1 out, Jason Landreth hit a
solo home run, his 2nd of the game and 7th of the season.  Then Hunter Jobes
came up with 2 away and hit a solo home run,  his 2nd of the season.  That
made the score 6-0.

San Anglelo extended their lead in the 4th.  With 2 away Jason Diaz who was
at 2nd base attempted to steal 3rd, the throw by catcher Luany Sanchez went
into left field allowing Diaz to score and move Ronnie Gaines who was on 1st
to 2nd.  Bryan Frichter then delivered a rbi single scoring Gaines.  That
knocked out Broncos’ starter Gregorio Martinez, as the Colts took a
commanding 8-0 lead.

Martinez was only able to last 3 2/3 innings.  He gave up 8 runs only 6
earned on 7 hits.  He walked 5 and struck out 4, and was in line for the
loss.  Jason Herman came into the game in relief.

The Broncos ended the shutout in their half of the 4th.  Luany Sanchez led
off with a home run, his 1st of the season.  Then with 2 outs, Jaime Morales
connected on a solo home run, his 1st of the season.  That made the score
8-2.

The Broncos added another run in the 6th inning.  With Argelis Nunez on 3rd
with 1 out, Andres Santos hit a single scoring Nunez and making the score
8-3.

Jason Herman left the game for the Broncos after his 2 1/3 innings giving up
no runs.  Edgar Soto came in to pitch.

The Broncos’ threatened in their half of the 7th, by loading the bases with
2 outs.  However, Argelis Nunez popped out to end the threat, and keep
Laredo down by 5 runs.

Edgar Soto would pitch a scoreless 8th and 9th innings as the Broncos needed
5 runs heading into their half of the 9th.

The Broncos showed some life in the 9th.  Jaime Morales walked to start the
inning and then OJ Garza singled.  A wild pitch moved the runners to 2nd and
3rd.  With 1 out Miguel Ortiz grounded out scoring Morales.  That was all
Laredo could muster as they loss by a score of 8-4.

The Broncos scored 4 runs on 8 hits and had 2 errors while the Colts scored
8 runs on 10 hits and had 0 errors.

The Broncos are now 7-15 on the season while the Colts are 15-7.  The
Broncos will next be in action Saturday July 4th, as they play game 3 of a 4
game series against the San Angelo Colts at Veterans Field at 7:30.  You can
