(Laredo, Tx)-This week, cement pours for the second floor of the Texas A&M International University Student Center expansion gave tangible evidence that the campus’ latest construction project is well underway.
The expansion, funded by a fee increase referendum approved by student vote in Spring 2012, provides a two-story addition that connects the north and south sides of the Student Center across its east end patio.
The addition will house a large, open computer lounge for students. Additional expansion initiatives will increase seating in the Dusty’s Diner while the student game room, Dusty’s Den, will move to the first floor with a separate entrance.
The existing patio is being enclosed on four sides, but remains open from above, allowing for shaded outdoor events.
The Student Center was constructed in 2002 when the University’s student population numbered about 3,300. The University’s population now exceeds 7,000.
The expansion’s projected completion is Spring 2014.
