Warm Water is Fine

Heat, sun contribute to higher temperature water coming from faucet

Laredo, TX – July 2, 2009 – If the water coming out of the cold water faucet feels a little warm to you, don’t worry, there is nothing wrong with your plumbing system nor the City of Laredo’s water utilities system.  It’s just hot out there, and this is affecting the core temperature of the water.

According to Tomás Rodriguez, director for the City of Laredo Utilities Department, there are several factors contributing to the warm water flowing in the cold water taps.

“Because of the extreme heat that Laredo has been experiencing – it has been over 100°F for the past 10 days – this has affected the temperature of the water tanks, both the ground storage and elevated storage tanks.”

Additionally, sometimes water lines in homes do heat up; especially, in older homes and those homes that are elevated and have exposed plumping pipes, which are heated up by the sun.

“Please note:  the water is perfectly acceptable to drink and use for cooking and all other household and irrigation uses,” Rodriguez stresses.  “Until the weather cools off, residents throughout Laredo may experience warmer than usual water.”
