July 1, 2009 (LAREDO, TX) The Laredo Entertainment Center recently hosted “Battle Rock”, a battle of the bands competition, where the winners will be the opening musical act at Grindco’s Motopsycho Mania event on July 4th @ 5:30pm.
For the taking, a group comprised of six talented young adults, took first place last Friday as they beat out eight other bands. They won over the audience with their hard rock, electric sounds; acquiring the majority of the People’s Choice votes.
The group was formed 2 ½ years ago, and have played across the state sharing the stage with some well-known bands. Their goal is to one day be able to release a professional CD and launch a world-wide tour. “It’s opportunities like this one that gives local talent a chance to shine,” said Roy Medina, General Manager for the SMG-managed Laredo Entertainment Center. This is not the first time the L.E.C has given local talent an opportunity to perform in front of a captivated audience; they gave local Hip-Hop/Rap groups an opportunity to open up for various Hip-Hop artists such as T.I. and Ludacris as well. “Another opportunity for others will soon come as we are preparing a ‘Talent Showcase’ scheduled for some time in August,” added Medina. (More information will become available as details involving this event are solidified).
Motopsycho Mania is a twist to an Independence Day Celebration like no other. This event features all the exciting thrills, chills, & spills that Freestyle Motocross, X-treme Street tricking, and the Globe of Death bring! The main event features the hard rock band named “A Means to an End” from Los Angeles, CA. They are currently documenting their tour for their upcoming reality TV show and more information can be found on their webpage on www.myspace.com/meanstoanend.
In addition to the “Mania”, a fireworks display will take place in front of the Laredo Entertainment Center immediately after the concert ends; thus giving everyone a chance to enjoy our nation’s day of Independence. “What’s the 4th of July without fireworks” exclaimed Medina!
