LISD Parent Involvement Conference

(Laredo, Tx)- The Laredo Independent School District Title I Parental Involvement Program will be hosting a Parental Involvement Conference on Saturday, October 13, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lamar Middle School cafeteria located at 1313 Arkansas.
Internationally renowned public speaker, Pastor David E. Garcia will address the audience as this year’s keynote speaker. Pastor Garcia will present his motivational message with a family-friendly comedy routine that is sure to entertain the audience.
Born and raised in Laredo, Pastor Garcia is all too familiar with the challenges of poverty, discrimination, and illiteracy. Garcia will emphasize with parents about students who face challenges because he was once considered an “at-risk student” himself before defying the odds and graduating with a bachelor’s degree and then earning his Masters Degree.
Following the presentation, over 300 LISD parents will participate in various educational sessions where they will learn about the benefits and importance of parental support on students’ academic success. Some of the sessions available include CTE Career Pathways/Achieve Texas, GEAR UP IV: Creating a Vision, 1:1 Initiative, Student Internet Safety, and Autism 101.
Conference organized Leticia Reyes said “attendees will also have the opportunity to visit numerous community service provider exhibits.” Health screenings will also be administered during the conference.
The all day conference is free to all LISD parents. Registration and breakfast is set for 8:00 a.m. Lunch and child care for children (3-12 yrs) will be provided.
