LAREDO, Texas—The SMG-managed Laredo Energy Arena has announced it has signed a formal letter of intent with Consolidated Sports Holdings USA to bring a North American Hockey League (NAHL) team to play at the arena beginning in 2013.

Consolidated Sports Holdings USA manages professional sports teams, including Central Hockey League (CHL) and NAHL hockey teams throughout the U.S., including some neighboring venues in South Texas.

Laredo has an established hockey fan base that has been eager to fill a void in local hockey after the Laredo Bucks ceased operations in May.

“We have been looking for a way to keep hockey in Laredo. The NAHL has a stellar reputation and it looks very promising for us locally,” said Xavier Villalon, general manager for the SMG-managed Laredo Energy Arena.

The arena believes this is a positive step towards bringing competitive sports teams to our area and the LEA and Consolidated Sports Holdings USA will now enter negotiations to build a contract that both parties agree on.
