The Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority Board of Directors held its annual Auto Theft conference in Houston, Texas last week and the Laredo Police Department’s Auto Theft Task Force was recognized for their Auto Theft prevention campaigns and Auto Theft Prevention Operations. The Laredo Police Department was one of three Police Departments bestowed with the honor. Houston and Del Rio Police Departments were also recognized. These three departments were chosen out of over 30 police departments in the state. The Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority also awarded the Laredo Auto Theft Task Force with a grant for $433,514.00 for FY-2010. There is a cash match for the city for $269,010.00 for a grand total amount of $702,524. This grant money will go towards proactive and preventive auto theft operations.
Car burglaries are very difficult cases to solve as there is usually very little physical evidence left behind after one has occurred.
