(Laredo, TX ) The Laredo Public Library will proudly host the Distinguished Artist Veterans, the third annual art exhibit by Texas veterans with disabilities.  The exhibit, organized by VSA Texas, will be at the Laredo Public Library, 1120 E. Calton Road, from July 3 – 30, 2012.  The exhibit will be on view throughout the month during regular library hours and includes artwork by Laredo artist Ernesto Sanchez, an Army veteran of the Korean War.

“I am so proud that Laredo will be hosting this beautiful and wonderful art exhibit of these brave men and women, true heroes, but also, gifted artists in their own right,” said Mayor Salinas.  “Being able to showcase one of our own veteran’s artwork is also a point of pride for the whole community.  I invite everyone to stop by the Laredo Public Library to view this collection of art and gain an even greater appreciation for the service of our veterans.”

City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas will kick-off the opening of the exhibit with a reception on Monday, July 2, from 10-11 am at the Laredo Public Library.

The public is invited to attend.

Approximately a dozen men and women who provided military service to our country and are now wounded warriors or veterans with disabilities have provide artwork that  is now part of the traveling exhibit that has been on display in communities across the state. Some of their artwork addresses imagery from the service, while other pieces are beautiful sculptures, jewelry or drawings that reflect how they spend their time as civilians.

The touring schedule, which began in Austin last November, includes stops in San Antonio, Bryan, and El Paso, as well as other communities and cities in the state.

Celia Hughes, Executive Director for VSA Texas says, “In the past two years, VSA has worked with 35 artist veterans from Korea to Operation Iraqi Freedom and now recently, Operation Enduring Freedom, showcasing talent and giving voice and support to returning Wounded Warriors. We look forward to celebrating this exhibit as it travels across the state where we can reach more veterans and their families.”
