Child Passenger Safety Certification Workshop in Laredo

LAREDO, Tx – Child passenger safety advocates and any interested person can now learn how to properly install child passenger safety seats in vehicles while getting certified to teach parents and child caregivers to do the same.
Safe Riders, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plans to conduct a child passenger safety (CPS) technician training workshop in Laredo, April 17-20, 2012, the TxDOT Laredo District Office located at 1817 Bob Bullock Loop (State Loop 20). Persons completing this four-day, CPS technician training course will receive a two-year (renewable) certification.
In January of 2011, 17 persons were certified CPS technicians at a similar workshop held in Laredo. Agencies who participated then are Laredo Police Department, Laredo Fire Department, TMC (Teaching, Mentoring Children), Texas Transportation Institute, UMCB-Austin, and Safe Riders, of course.
“This CPS technician training course in Laredo will continue to improve CPS statistical rates locally through educational activities such as child seat check events. We welcome everyone’s participation,” said Frank Luera, a coordinator and senior instructor for the Texas Department of State Health Service’s Safe Riders Program.
Luera also said, “More CPS techs locally means more education and instruction available to the community with the ultimate goal of keeping children safe in vehicles should an accident occur.”
