(Laredo, Tx)-City of Laredo Mayor Pro Tempore Cindy Liendo Espinoza welcomed representatives from SCAN, and their partners throughout the community to help build awareness of the rise of teen dating violence and their efforts to prevent it. Joining MPT Liendo Espinoza in the proclamation was Webb County Judge Danny Valdez. According to the director of the sexual assault program for SCAN, Sylvia Hernandez and partner, Sylvia Flores, the key to the success of their teen program is the presence and participation of so many teenagers in the community who volunteer their time on Saturdays to learn about these issues, and become ambassadors in their schools. Students from LBJ High School, Nixon High School and Cigarroa High School were present to help with the proclamation, as were representatives from various law enforcement agencies and other community partners who deal with this issue.
Standing together for the proclamation are the student ambassadors, holding the DATING BILL OF RIGHTS, along with City of Laredo MPT Cindy Liendo Espinoza; Sylvia Hernandez, SCAN; Dr. Susanna Rivera, SCAN; Webb County Judge Danny Valdez; Sylvia Flores, SCAN; City of Laredo Assistant Chief of Police Jesus R. Torres; and Assistant Chief Pete Arredondo, Sheriff Martin Cuellar’s Office.
