For the 2nd night in a row, the Broncos jumped out to an early lead in the
1st. with 2 outs Mario Mendez singled. That was followed by a walk to
Argelis Nunez. The next batter Andres Santos delivered with a rbi single,
scoring Mendez and giving Laredo the 1-0 lead.
And for the 2nd straight night, the Thunder would answer back in their half
of the 1st. with 2 outs Leivi Ventura singled and then went to 2nd on a
walk to Manny Mejia. That was followed by Mike Gross being hit by a pitch
to load the bases against Broncos starter Dave Wasylak. Amadeo Zazueta
would then hit a 2 run single scoring both Ventura and Mejia. Gross would
go to 3rd and Zazueta to 2nd when OJ Garza’s throw air mailed the cut off
man. Then Juvy Ibarra delivered another 2 run single scoring Gross and
Zazueta and making the score 4-1 in favor of Costal Bend.
Laredo would get a run back in the top of the 3rd inning when Mario Mendez
connected on a solo home run, his 3rd of the season. That made the score
4-2.
The Thunder would tack on a run in the 4th inning. Dustin Smith and Michael
Lewis drew back to back walks to start the inning. After a fly out advance
the runners to 2nd and 3rd, Manny Mejia was intentionally walked to load the
bases. Casey Gordon then came up and was also walked by Wasylak to score
Smith. That would do it for Wasylak, as Edgar Soto would come into the
game. Soto would get a double play to end the threat with Costal Bend
leading 5-2.
Wasylak only went 3 1/3 innings for the Broncos, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits.
He walked 6 batters and struck out 2.
Soto would run into his own trouble in the 5th inning. With 1 out Chris
Lewis singled. Then with 2 outs Dustin Smith singled and Michael Lewis
walked to load the bases. Leivi Ventura would draw the bases load walk
scoring Chris Lewis. Soto’s wildness would continue as he would also walk
the next batter Manny Mejia scoring Smith. After the walk the Broncos first
baseman Robert Moron was ejected by home plate umpire Woodie Bell for
arguing balls and strikes. With Mike Gross batting, Soto would throw a wild
pitch scoring Michael Lewis and moving Ventura to 3rd and Mejia to 2nd.
After the wild pitch Nathan Crawford came into the game and threw a wild
pitch of his own scoring Ventura. He would finally get the last out of the
inning, but the Thunder would have a 9-2 lead.
Costal Bend would extend their lead in the 7th inning on a rbi singles by
Amadeo Zazueta and Juvy Ibarra. A Broncos error also led to another run
being scored, as the Thunder took a commanding 11-2 lead.
