Gateway City Book Club To Meet In New Year

Author lecture to highlight first meeting of the year
(Laredo, TX ) If you prefer books with a more inspirational message, then the Gateway City Book Lover’s Club is for you. While the club took a hiatus for the month of December, the club invites the community to join them at their next meeting on Friday, January 13, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. regarding the book “Dead in a Ditch: Growing up in Texas and Other Near Death Experiences.”
Despite the gloomy title, the story is actually a hilarious memoir by Jody Seay, who will be at the Library that evening, discussing her book and sharing the funny things her mother used to say to her and her siblings growing up that inspired her to write the book.
“‘I come from a large family. My Mother’s biggest fear was that one or all of us would die on her watch when we were babies and then children. As we grew up, her fear shifted a little – not just that we would die, but that we would be found Dead In A Ditch. It was the ditch part that always made it seem so much worse, something drug or alcohol related, to be sure. Mother’s children crumpled up andtossed out the window like an old beer can. ‘Where have you been?’ she would say, ‘I was worried sick. I thought you were dead in a ditch.’ This was Mother’s mantra.”

The Gateway City Book Lovers Club book is available for check-out at the Reference Desk at the Laredo Public Library.
