Match Preview(s): Laredo Hosting DFW and Rio Grande Valley on Back-to-Back Nights
( Laredo , TX):
At the halfway mark of the Premier Development League (PDL) Regular Season, the Laredo Heat Soccer Club (4 – 1 – 3 / 15 points) is currently tied for second place in the Mid-South Division with the El Paso Patriots.
Both clubs are nipping at the front runners, the Austin Aztex U-23’s; however, there is an advantage for the Gateway City team in this scenario because both Austin and El Paso have a game on hand over the Heat, meaning that they have each played nine games so far this season to the Heat’s eight.
With that being said, the Heat will be hosting the DFW Tornados (1 – 5 – 2 / 5 points) on Thursday, June 18th and the Rio Grande Valley Bravos (3 – 3 – 3 / 12 points) on Friday, June 19th.
Both games will be played at the Texas A& M International University Soccer Complex located on campus and kickoff will be at 8:00 PM for both crucial Mid-South Division matches.
During halftime of Thursday night’s game, the Heat, in cooperation with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of South Texas, will presenting Wish Child Valentin Escamilla with his wish of meeting President Barack Obama. Valentin is from Laredo and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with the assistance of the Laredo Heat Soccer Club, is very excited about this event and would like to invite all of all Laredo to come out and support Valentin and his family.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization and since 1980 has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities. Their mission statement is simple: We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
On Friday, as announced on Tuesday, June 16th, the Heat will have newly signed player, Bucks Mascot Bucky, on the bench along with Fuego to take on the expansion Rio Grande Valley Bravos.
“Both of the matches are very important for us in terms of standings within the division and neither is less important than the other”, said Heat General Manager J.J. Vela.
“Due to what looks like a fight to the finish for all the teams in the division, I would say that from this point forward, every game should be looked as a must win game in order to get three points each time out for us and also an opportunity to take points away from everyone else”.
Vela concluded, “For our game versus the Rio Grande Valley team, I would like to ask for as many fans to come out and be loud and support us and more importantly, give them a nice welcome as their fans did to us when we played in Hidalgo last month where they heckled and harassed our bench all evening long”.
