CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry Seize .50-Caliber Ammo, Magazines

 EAGLE PASS, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry Wednesday arrested a Mexican citizen after finding a cache of large-caliber rifle ammunition and more than five dozen rifle magazines in his vehicle, during an outbound examination.

Around 4:20 p.m. CBP officers, performing examinations of southbound vehicles leaving the United States at the Eagle Pass International Bridge , referred a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by a 50-year-old male citizen of Mexico for a secondary examination. During an intensive examination of the vehicle, CBP officers discovered rifle magazines and ammunition hidden within the vehicle. CBP officers seized 100 rounds of .50-caliber ammunition, five .50-caliber rifle magazines, 20 AK-47 rifle magazines, 38 AR-15 rifle magazines, and 23 boxes of handcuffs.

 CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation.

 “We are committed to keeping weapons and ammunition from both entering and leaving the country illegally,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “Every round our officers seize helps to ensure the safety of our border communities.”
