It’s a project that has been years in the making, but Thursday, Webb County Precinct 2 Commissioner Rosaura “Wawi” Tijerina, Webb County Judge Danny Valdez, Economic Director Juan Vargas and representatives from the U.S.D.A. Rural Development Program will showcase the final house to receive rehabilitation from a $1.2 million grant provided through the Webb County Economic Development Department.
The project, which started back in October of 2006 has helped a total of eight colonia families living on highway 359 rehabilitate their homes by repairing areas such as the drywall, plumbing, electrical wiring and structure problems in roofs and foundations.
“We are very pleased with the finished product done by the construction companies and the owners are very thankful for the help they received in improving living conditions in their homes,” said Commissioner Tijerina. “We hope to continue to help colonia residents improve their quality of life.”
On Thursday, June 18 the final house to be rehabilitated will be showcased as representatives from Webb County and the USDA Rural Development Program will be on hand to give tours of the completed house and answer questions on the grant used for the project.
The event starts at 9 a.m. at 233 Welsh Road located at the San Carlos Subdivision.
