Man Found Guilty of Stealing from His Employer

Courtesy Monica Garcia,

A three day trial in misdemeanor court ended today with the conviction of Jose Angel Flores who was found guilty of Theft and Filing a False Police Report.  Theft is a Class A Misdemeanor and Filing a False Police Report is a Class B Misdemeanor.

The Office of District Attorney Isidro R. Alaniz reports that the charges stemmed from the defendant having pawned tools belonging to his employer, Air Care A/C Incorporated.  After having been asked repeatedly to return tools belonging to the company, the defendant filed a false police report claiming that the tools were stolen from a company vehicle.

When his tools were not returned, the owner of Air Care A/C Inc., Mr. Saul Placencia, proceeded to contact the police as well.  A police investigation revealed that the defendant had made four separate trips to pawn his employer’s tools and had made the false police report to cover up his wrongdoing.

A jury in County Court at Law No.2 sentenced Jose Angel Flores to the maximum penalty for each crime (365 days for the Class A and 180 days for the Class B).  He was ordered to pay $1,500.00 in restitution and the sentences will run concurrently.

“After working for twenty-two years in this industry, Mr. Placencia ventured into becoming a small business owner.  It is unfortunate that the defendant saw this as an opportunity to take advantage of a hard working individual.  The maximum penalty demonstrates that this community supports honest, hard-working individuals and will hold criminals accountable.”
