CBP Officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry Seize $167,000 in Marijuana

EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this week seized $167,000 in marijuana from a vehicle driven by a Piedras Negras , Mexico man, The seizure occurred on July 27, 2011 at Eagle Pass Bridge I. A CBP officer referred a 1995 Chevy Lumina driven by a 22-year-old male Mexican citizen from Piedras Negras, Coahuila , Mexico for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers discovered anomalies in a wheelchair box in the rear seat. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the box and discovered 67 packages containing a total of nearly 167 pounds of alleged marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $167,000.

 CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation and seized the narcotics and the vehicle.

 “Our officers applied their training, experience and technology to seize a significant load of narcotics,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “What was contained in that wheelchair box is a commodity that cripples our community. The thorough work of our CBP officers in this seizure prevented this poison from reaching our streets.”
