Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Friday, July 22, 2011, The Webb County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Laredo Rotary Club hosted a breakfast honoring scholarship recipients at the Embassy Suites located on Calle Del Norte. Sheriff Martin Cuellar along with his staff presented a check in the amount of $9,500 which assisted the Rotary Club in awarding 19 scholarships to students of UISD and LISD. These deserving students plan on continuing their education in our community by attending Laredo Community College and Texas A&M International University and each hope to pursue a career in law enforcement. TAMIU representative Becky Garcia and LCC representative Minnie Slaughter were present to meet the recipients and commended them on their aspirations of entering the higher education system and choosing a career path that gives back to the community.
“The opportunities that students have today are not like the ones we had in the past. It is a great honor for the Webb County Sheriff’s Office to help the youth of our community in achieving their goals of seeking a higher education and it’s great to see such an interest in the field of law enforcement.” Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated.
