The hard-court action heats up this summer when George Hill’s Rising All-Stars come to town to challenge our local law enforcement and elected officials to a celebrity basketball game to benefit two local charities. The game is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, at the Martin High School Colonel Flores Gymnasium.

Laredoans will be treated to a basketball game featuring George Hill and his Rising All-Stars, and several professional athletes against representatives from Laredo’s Police Department, Fire Department, Border Patrol, and elected officials.

The game is scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Admission is just $5. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Advocacy Center and Casa de Misericordia.

Also as part of a collaborative effort between Laredo Independent School District, Webb County Judge Danny Valdez, and the Laredo Boys and Girls Club, over 200 school children will attend the George Hill and Avery Johnson “Signature Skills Camp,” free of charge. The camp is scheduled for Friday, July 15, at the Martin High School, Colonel Roberto Flores Gymnasium.

Professional basketball player George Hill and professional basketball coach Avery Johnson will visit the gateway city to emphasize the fundamentals of basketball and stress the importance of playing hard while getting an education through their motivational messages to members of the Laredo Boys and Girls Club Summer Program.

“This is a rare opportunity for some of our underprivileged kids to be exposed to world class athletes,” commented LISD Superintendent, Dr. Marcus Nelson.

“This camp offers kids an opportunity to attend a basketball camp free of charge and to learn and hear not only basketball fundamentals, but positive motivational speeches from the best professional athletes,” added County Judge Danny Valdez.

“The Boys & Girls Club Family is thrilled to have Avery Johnson and George Hill visit Laredo and most importantly host a basketball camp for members of the Boys & Girls Club,” said Mr. Hector Noyola, Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Laredo. “This is an experience that we are looking forward to and that our members will treasure.”
