Laredo, Texas – The Laredo Heat Soccer Club (8 – 3 – 1, 25 points, 12 games played) will face South Texas rival RGV Grandes FC (3 – 9 – 2, 11 points, 14 games played) on Tuesday, July 12th at the TAMIU Soccer Complex. Kick-off is set for 8:00 P.M. The Grandes are coming off two losses in Midland and El Paso over the weekend and has only two games remaining in the 2011 Premier Development League (PDL) season, both versus the Heat.
Laredo is currently sitting in second place in the Mid-South Division of the PDL’s Southern Conference behind the Chivas El Paso Patriots (10 – 3 – 2, 32 points, 15 games played).
At this juncture of the season, Laredo, with three games in-hand over El Paso, has their playoff and division title hopes in their hands with four games left in the season. After Tuesday, the Heat will head to Edinburgh over the weekend and then head to West Texas to take on the Sockers in Midland and Chivas El Paso Patriots in the Sun City the following week.
“We are sitting just where we want to be, in control of our destiny, in the last quarter of the regular season”, said Heat Head Coach Israel Collazo.
“Though we have had our share of injuries up to this point, we should start getting everyone back at full strength for these final four games; however, the players are the ones that need to decide to make it happen and make all their preparation and hard work pay off. They know they cannot take anyone in our division, regardless of their record, lightly”.
Collazo concluded, “First things first, our concern right now are the RGV Grandes FC on Tuesday here at home because a loss or tie could really cause serious issues as we try to finish our season and complete our goal of a division title”.
