(Laredo, TX) — “Water is often taken for granted – not until you open the faucet and nothing comes out do you really think about water,” says Tomas M. Rodriguez Jr., Utilities Director. During Drinking Water Week, the City of Laredo Utilities Department welcomes everyone to recognize the importance of water and what life would be like without it. A special attention is also being focused on the future of water, water infrastructure and the economy, careers in the water profession, and source water protection during this week. “Water not only provides public health protection and fire protection, but it also supports our economy and the quality of life that we enjoy,” adds Rodriguez.
This Thursday, May 5, 2011, the Utilities Department will be recognizing the essential role that a water storage tank plays in everyone’s lives as the new Milmo Ground Storage Tank goes online to provide water services to the South Laredo area. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the intersection of Milmo Ave. & San Luis St. starting 10 a.m.
The new tank is part of the Hendricks, Milmo & Lyon Water Booster Pump Station Improvements Project, which will improve the pumping capacity to maintain a minimum pressure of 42 psi on the system. The project is being made possible through funds from the American Recover & Reinvestment Act provided by the Texas Water Development Board and bond funds.
