Mayor Recognizes Home Grown Talent

City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas, along with Dist. III Council Member Alex Perez, Jr., recognized Grupo Fantasma for recently winning a Grammy Award in the Best Latin Rock, Alternative or Urban category for their current album “El Existential.” The group is based in Austin, Texas with several members originally from Laredo: Adrian Quesada; Francisco Martinez III (Beto); Gregory Gonzalez.
Their last album “Sonidos Gold” was nominated for a Grammy in 2009. The band has toured all over the world and has played at such prestigious festivals such as Montreal Jazz Fest, North Sea Jazz Fest in the Netherlands, Bonnaroo and many more. They have also performed with the legendary recording artist, Prince, on many occasions. Grupo Fantasma has been hailed as one of the most important bands today in the Latin genre.
Aside from winning a Grammy, the group received a nice award from Mayor Salinas, which they posed with; standing left to right are: Cm. Perez; Quesada; Gonzalez; and Martinez. The group members families were also on hand to help celebrate their accomplishments.
