Funding Returns To The Community Action Agency

Courtesy Larry Sanchez,

Some good news for the Webb County Community Action Agency as word came that some funds that were frozen will soon be released. “This is the first step in getting the CAA back on track to provide the much needed services for Webb County residents,” said Judge Danny Valdez.  “It gives us the opportunity to start hiring staff so that services can be restored as soon as possible,” the Judge added.

The process has already started.  On Wednesday newly appointed CAA Director Juan Vargas met with members of the Civil Service Commission to get approval for the positions that he wants to fill.  Approval is needed the from the Commissioners Court before anyone is hired.

Vargas told Civil Service Commissioners that he reviewed all job descriptions of the agency and made modifications in order for the CAA to run more efficiently.

“The letter we received from the TDHC was welcomed news and release of the funds was only approved after they looked and approved our action plan to get the agency back to normal,” said Vargas.  He said the release of the funds and the approval of the job descriptions now gives him the tools to bring back a new and improved Community Action Agency.

The first positions to be filled will be four administrative core staff that will commence the process and assist in hiring the Case Workers and Program Supervisor that will complete the staff and allow CAA to start providing services once again.

“We want the residents of Webb County to know that we are taking it one step at a time to get the CAA back up and running,” said Judge Valdez.  “By having a good checks and balances plan in place, we can avoid any problems in the future.”

No date has been set as to when the agency will once again opens its doors.
