Webb County Sheriff’s Office Update on Joseph Allen Garcia

Laredo, Texas (Webb County) – On Monday February 14, 2011 a Surety Bond was approved for Joseph Allen Garcia through his Attorney Manuel Flores. All bonds documents were carefully reviewed by the County and District Attorney’s Office and all requirements were met by Garcia’s attorney. Bond was set for $1,250,000.00 after his attorney was able to provide proof to the Webb County Sheriff’s Office that he was worth double that amount.

 On September 24, 2010, In a joint effort between the Webb County Sheriff’s Office and Mexican authorities, Sheriff’s Office officials successfully captured Joseph Allen Garcia. Garcia, who had absconded to Mexico and was returned to the United States to face justice for the murder of two individuals and four aggravated assaults with a deadly weapon. The charges and warrants were issued back in 2005 and 2009 cases. This dangerous fugitive had been absconding authorities for approximately 5 years. Based on Sheriff Martin Cuellar’s intelligence contacts, Joseph Allen Garcia, age 23, was picked up in Mexico on September 23rd, 2010. He was transported to a jail facility in McAllen, Texas, Hidalgo County where he went through the magistrate process. Garcia was transported to the Webb County jail on September 24th, 2010.

Garcia faced charges of Murder Felony 1, Attempted Murder Felony 1, Possession of Marijuana Class B, Assault Causing Bodily Injury Class A, and 3 Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon a Felony 2 charge. Garcia was on the Webb County Sheriff’s office top 10 Most Wanted list.

“Efforts to work cooperatively with all other law enforcement agencies—international, federal, state, and local—throughout my 26 years working with the Department of Public Safety have been influential in the continuing apprehension of dangerous wanted fugitives. As Webb County Sheriff, I will continue building bridges with all law enforcement authorities.” Stated Sheriff Martin Cuellar. Assisting agencies include the Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division and the U.S. Marshals’ Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force, Laredo Division.

Joseph Allen Garcia, an alleged hit man for the Zetas, was captured in Matamoros, Mexico on Thursday, September 23rd, 2010. Garcia was wanted for Murder, Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Failure to Appear and Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution. In December of 2003, Garcia and two subjects allegedly traveled to Laredo to fight with another group of subjects, Garcia reportedly pulled out an AK-47 assault rifle and opened fire on the group, killing 18-year-old Mario Gonzalez and injuring three others. On August of 2004, Garcia allegedly shot and wounded another young man after an argument. Garcia was scheduled to appear in court March of 2005, but failed to appear. Authorities have been looking for him ever since. Garcia is allegedly known to be associated with the Mexican Mafia and is believed to be involved in the drug trade.
