LAREDO – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Laredo District is preparing for a brief winter storm forecasted for today, February 9, 2011 and tomorrow, February 10, 2011 with weather information outlets reporting its dissipation by this Friday.
TxDOT crews will monitor the weather and traffic conditions. Crews will remain on standby and will treat overpasses and bridges with aggregate material as necessary, and will advise of any road closures.
In the event of ice conditions, remember that overpasses and bridges are the most likely locations for ice to form.
The Texas Department of Transportation offers these winter driving tips:
- Avoid unnecessary travel if possible;
- Reduce driving speed to correspond with conditions;
- Increase the distance from the vehicle ahead of you;
- Avoid abrupt stopping or locking of brakes;
- Avoid sharp turns…start slowing down before you come to a turn; and
- Slow down as you approach bridges and shady areas.
