Chief Travels to our State and National Capitals

Chief MaldonadoCourtesy Joe Baeza,

Chief Carlos Maldonado had a busy work and travel schedule last week while visiting our state’s capital in Austin with the City delegation and then also traveling up to our nation’s capital in Washington, D.C. to attend an International Chiefs of Police conference.  His first stop was in Austin where Chief Maldonado visited, along with city officials, several State directors and elected officials in order to remind them about the vital role in funding additional security resources along the Laredo and Nuevo Laredo border.  With imminent budget cuts looming, the Chief wanted to make sure that no one in Austin would forget how paramount a task it was to continue to fund Laredo P.D.’s security initiatives.  The Chief met with Steve McCraw, Texas DPS director, and spoke about the need for continued communication and further enhance resource availability to the police department so that the State of Texas would avoid having a porous border and thus reducing the chances for drug trafficking organizations to have a strong hold in Texas.  The Texas leadership agreed that Laredo played a crucial role in securing the State of Texas and the rest of the United States.

After the visit in Austin the Chief traveled to Washington at the invitation of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) for an Executive Training on Information Sharing Initiatives.  Chief Maldonado has been designated as one of the executive board of directors tasked with the development of curriculum, and the establishment of standards regarding information sharing among law enforcement
