Rep. Cuellar Highlights More Than $702.9 Million in Financial Aid for TAMIU and Laredo College Students

Laredo, TX – On Monday, Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D., joined Texas A&M International University and Laredo College students and leaders to highlight more than $702.9 million in TEXAS Grant and federal Pell Grant assistance awarded to students at the two institutions.
Through the TEXAS Grant Program, students at TAMIU have received $178,774,301 in financial assistance, benefiting 17,160 students, while Laredo College students received $19,586,038, benefiting 8,705 students before two-year institutions were phased out of the program. Altogether, students at the two institutions have received more than $198.3 million in TEXAS Grant assistance.
Congressman Cuellar authored the legislation creating the TEXAS Grant Program while serving in the Texas Legislature to expand access to higher education for students with financial need.
From 2014 through 2025, TAMIU students also received $274,687,964 in federal Pell Grant assistance, benefiting 22,388 students. During the same period, 28,995 Laredo College students received $229,943,976 in Pell Grant assistance. Together, the two institutions received more than $504.6 million in Pell Grant funding during that period.
