LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo City Council held the required public hearings and approved the introductory readings of ordinances for the City of Laredo’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026–2027 Annual Budget and proposed 2026 property tax rate during a Special City Council Meeting on Monday, September 14, 2026.

The proposed $1,019,086,321 budget provides a balanced financial plan that maintains General Fund reserves above the City Charter’s 15% minimum, protects essential services, strengthens public safety and emergency response, and advances investments in streets, drainage, parks, public facilities, water-system reliability, and long-term water supply. It also moves forward the City’s five-year Capital Improvement Program and improvements to development services, permitting, and municipal operations.

City Council also approved on introductory reading a proposed 2026 property tax rate of $0.506080 per $100 of taxable value. The proposed rate includes:

$0.380253 for Maintenance and Operations
$0.125827 for the Interest and Sinking Fund used for debt service

The proposed tax rate is estimated to generate $140,577,516 in property tax revenue to support City operations and debt service.

The proposed rate is slightly lower than the City’s 2025 rate of $0.506090 per $100 of taxable value and continues the City of Laredo’s record of 23 consecutive years without an increase in its property tax rate.

Under the Taxpayer Impact Statement, the median homestead taxable value is $209,899, resulting in an estimated City property tax of $1,062.26 at the proposed rate. Individual tax bills may vary based on taxable property values and applicable exemptions.

The ordinances approving the Fiscal Year 2026–2027 Annual Budget and adopting the 2026 property tax rate are scheduled for second and final reading on Monday, September 21, 2026. The new fiscal year begins October 1, 2026.
