City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño to Host Town Hall on Data Centers and Proposed Regulations

LAREDO, Texas – City of Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor D. Treviño, in collaboration with Councilmember for District 7, Vanessa Perez, Congressman Henry Cuellar & State Representative, Richard Peña Raymond, invites residents and members of the media to attend a Town Hall meeting on data centers and proposed regulations on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
The Town Hall Meeting will provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about data centers, the infrastructure demands associated with this type of development, and the City’s efforts to establish clear regulatory parameters for any future consideration of this type of industry.
City officials will discuss the City’s ongoing work to develop a regulatory framework addressing industries that could require substantial water consumption or place significant demands on public utilities. The discussion will include considerations related to:
Water consumption and protection of the City’s water resources
Electrical and utility infrastructure demands
Cooling technologies
Land use and development compatibility
Environmental considerations
Responsible development and infrastructure capacity
The City of Laredo has not received any applications for a data center, and no data center development is currently before the City Council.
As part of its responsibility to establish clear rules and parameters for land uses and industries that may have significant impacts on community resources and infrastructure, the City is evaluating what regulations would be appropriate should such a request ever be submitted. This work is intended to ensure that the City has a clear regulatory framework in place and that any future development is evaluated consistently with the City’s laws, infrastructure capacity, and the interests of the community.
The Town Hall Meeting will give residents an opportunity to better understand what data centers are, the infrastructure and resources they require, the City’s regulatory responsibilities, and the issues being considered as the City develops its framework. Residents will also have an opportunity to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
