(Laredo, Texas)- Webb County Treasurer Raul Reyes has completed the Basics of County Investments Course presented by the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). This training is required for membership in TAC’s County Investment Academy.
The Basics course includes presentations on products and services in the public funds markets, updates on the latest laws and strategies and meets the educational requirements of the Texas Public Funds Investment Act (PFIA). Course topics include identifying cash flow needs, analyzing factors affecting the Texas economy and the PFIA. Course graduates are in a better position to ensure the safety of principal, portfolio liquidity and appropriate returns which are three key areas of concern for county investments.
The Academy provides investment education through a variety of conferences and workshops throughout the year. Attendees have access to accurate, in-depth information, as well as a network of experienced county investors from across the state. The overall objective of the program is to safeguard public funds through the introduction of modern operational techniques that provide the county with appropriate yield from taxpayer dollars.
The County Investment Academy is a cooperative partnership between TAC and the McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State University. TAC began its public investing educational program in 1992.
