Fourth Annual UISD Golf Tournament Raises Funds for College Bound Graduates

(Laredo, Texas)-On October 13, 2018 UISD and and title sponsor Powell Watson Auto Group hosted the Districts’ fourth annual Golf Tournament “FORE” Our Students event at the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course. The sold-out event welcomed 40 three man scramble teams to play 18 rounds of golf to benefit UISD’s annual scholarship program. As title sponsor, Powell Watson donated $15,000.00 to initiate the tournament, and offered two hole in one hole-in-one opportunities to win new automobiles.
Following a breakfast sponsored by Patria International Office Supply, golfers loaded up their carts and shuttled to their starting positions for an 8:30 a.m tee-off. The day was fully enjoyed by the golfers who played hard to prevail as one of the top three teams. Throughout the tournament, Farmers Insurance agent Karen Alfaro and family distributed water to the players on the course. A post-game lunch was sponsored by Cougar Bus Lines, and the day concluded with the announcement of the winners and a drawing for door prizes.
UISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos attended the tournament and thanked the sponsors and players who made the event a grand success. UISD Athletic Director Bobby Cruz coordinated the event. “It was a great day of golf for everyone, and we’re thankful to the sponsors and participants who came out to support this fundraiser for our students,” said Cruz. All proceeds will be used to help select Class of 2019 UISD graduates with $1000.00 college scholarships.
