LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged heroin with an estimated street value of $478,000 in one enforcement action.
“I congratulate our officers for this excellent interception and for the outstanding job they do each day in keeping our borders and community secure,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.
The seizure occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2017 Nissan Tiida driven by a 50-year-old male Mexican citizen and 73-year-old male Mexican citizen from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas for a secondary examination. Upon a canine and non-intrusive imaging inspection by CBP officers, a total of 12 packages containing 21.07 pounds of alleged heroin was discovered within the traveler’s belongings. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $478,000.
CBP officers seized the narcotics and vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were arrested and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
