(Laredo, Texas)-The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded the George Washington Middle School (GWMS), Library a $2000.00 grant to support youth literacy. Awarded annually at the beginning of the academic school year, the grant helps to support teachers, schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the 44 states that Dollar General serves.

The grant will be used to purchase more audio books for the GWMS library collection to help build a stronger literary foundation for struggling readers. “The audio books help them follow along as they listen to the story. Our goal at GWMS is to build stronger readers. Thanks to the Dollar General Literary Foundation Grant Award we will be able to meet our goals.” said librarian Laura Gonzalez-Ortiz.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation supports initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since 1993, the Foundation has awarded more than $159 million in grants to non-profit organizations, helping more than 10 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy, a general education diploma or English proficiency.
